If you are reading this, you should be thanking a teacher today. They help you not only learn skills like writing or reading but also life skills like how to interact with others and how to treat people. There are so many great teachers in the world, I think it is fantastic that there is a day or in some instances a week to thank them for their work. National Teacher Appreciation Day is always the Tuesday of the First Full Week in May.

The National Education Association describes National Teaching Day "as a day for honoring teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives." Teachers really are amazing people to deal with all the attitudes and distractions and still give everything they have to help kids and young adults learn what they need to be successful in life. I hate to even bring it up, but especially with all of the school shootings that have taken place lately, to be a teacher you really are a hero.

What I have found as I get a little older is how many teachers made an impact on my life that I never got to thank. I have tried to reach out to a few through social media and thank them personally but I hope the ones I don't connect with truly know how important they were and still are to so many people.

One teacher specifically that I really appreciated reconnecting with was my 10th grade history teacher Mr. Ross Johnson from Redmond High School. This man not only controlled my temper that was out of control but he showed me how history was relate-able to my own life. He also brought in a special guest one day (Bryan Suits) that was a radio show host in Seattle, and that day started my passion for radio. Thank you Mr. Johnson.
