Mark Wahlberg has asked the Massachusetts Parole Board to pardon his 1988 felony assault conviction and says he did so because he wants to be an example to troubled teens that they can turn their lives around, but there's another reason.

The actor, who served a few months in jail for the racially-motivated attack on two Vietnamese men which left one partially blind, says he wants to join the LAPD as a reservist. But with a felony on his record, he's not allowed to handle a gun and therefore wouldn't be allowed on the force. The Massachusetts Parole Board has not yet made a decision...
