Looking to Buy a House for a Buck?
My commute is too long now, so I'm sure not looking to settle in Northampton, Mass. But you can't beat the price. Although there is that little matter of relocation expenses. But Associated Press says Smith College is selling a house on its campus for $1. The buyer has to pay to have the house moved, an estimated $70,000, plus the cost of a piece of land on which to put it and all the physical plant stuff (water, electricity, etc.). But it still doesn't sound like a bad investment. It's in outstanding condition, especially considering its age (built in 1860), just over 2,300 square feet, four bedroom/two bath, two fireplaces, historic woodworking. Contact your local realtor for more information. And let me know when the housewarming party is. DB
