My wife and I decided to take a drive down (up/alongside) the Bitterroot on Sunday in search of a little sunshine.  And, we actually found some at one of the nicest places to spend a few hours in the entire valley.

We spent a little time knocking around the Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge and it made for a great day outdoors.

The visitor's center isn't open Sundays but you're free to just look around the refuge on your own schedule.

We're not "birders" so I can't identify every bird we saw but we did see Red Wing Blackbirds, Robins, Swallows, Mallards, Swans, Woodpeckers, a Great Blue Heron, a Wild Turkey...and a bunch of pocket gophers.

Check it out next time you're looking for something to do and all you want to spend is gas money.
