This is probably not a letter that guys would want their wives to see among the Christmas cards. And if a civil liberties group has their way, it won't be happening. But it's on the table.

While it's hardly on the level of Ashley Madison stuff, the city of Los Angeles wants to start sending letters to the owners of vehicles they find parked and unattended in neighborhoods with lots of prostitution. And yes, they're calling them "Dear John" letters. But a group called Electronic Frontier Foundation is questioning the pending legislation, which allows police to use license plate info for ID purposes. Hasn't that always been done? Anyway, the group has gone so far as to sue the LAPD and LA County Sheriff's Department.

"Honest honey! I was parked in that sleazy neighborhood because there's a great rib joint around the corner!"       DB
