If you know the guy like many of us do, you knew there would be no year-long farewell tour.

As quietly and with true class, just like he does everything, University of Montana Lady Griz basketball coach Robin Selvig has announced his retirement after 38 years on the job and 865 career wins, effective August 31. That's right. The coach has already coached his last game.

To paraphrase some of his quote from the University of Montana Grizzlies website, the coach feels that he has lost some of the excitement for the job that his players deserve. They always gave him their best, and wearing down a little bit may not allow him to do the same.

The athletics department will be holding a press conference Thursday. Athletic Director Kent Haslam will be on hand to discuss the plan to find Coach Selvig's successor.

Here's to you, coach! And thank you.    DB
