I was recently discussing one of my all time favorite novels, with a friend. For anyone who is fascinated by the wilderness, reading Gary Paulsen's "Hatchet" is a MUST. It is not a big adult paperback by any means, but it is a book that could save your life someday. Reading the book as a young boy helped me in a couple unfortunate situations in the back country.

It is important for kids to know what to do in the case of an emergency in the wilderness. It is not always as easy as simply picking up the phone and calling for help. Kids, especially here in Montana, should know basic wilderness survival skills. Therefore, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is hosting a FREE Kids Event on the topic of Wilderness Survival on January 19th.

First 50 kids to show up to the RMEF visitors center on the 19th will receive a free survival kits courtesy of the RMEF.
