Johnny Cash’s Youngest Daughter Releasing Book About the Legend
Thanks to Johnny Cash‘s daughter, fans are able to get glimpse into the country legend’s childhood. Cash’s youngest daughter, Tara Cash Schwoebel has announced the release of a new book, ‘Recollections by J.R. Cash: Childhood Memories of Johnny Cash.’
While the book in itself is new, its inception occurred almost ten years ago. In 1995, Schwoebel gave her father a blank book entitled ‘Dad, Share Your Life With Me’ and asked him to fill it with his childhood memories. Cash spent a year completing the questions, and returning it to his daughter on her birthday in 1996.
“These questions are not the typical questions that he was asked in the countless number of interviews he did in his career,” says Schwoebel to NPR affiliate KASU. “That fact makes this such a unique and wonderful addition to the story of my father, Johnny Cash. This book tells the story of a young boy, his home life, his friends and family, his dedication to work, and where all of his hopes and dreams came alive in Dyess, Arkansas.”
Released to coincide with the restoration and reopening of Cash’s boyhood home in Dyess, Ark., ‘Recollections of J.R. Cash’ features Cash’s own handwriting and personal photos chosen by Schwoebel. It is a unique look at the personal life and childhood of one of the most influential musicians in history.
“I have held this book close to my heart for all these years,” Schwoebel reveals on the book’s official website. “With no hesitation, knowing that Dad would be proud to share these stories, I now want to share it with his fans, friends, and family to cherish, as I do. I hope you will enjoy getting to know this boy, who became my father, as much as I did. I give that boy, and that father, all the love and respect in the world.”
