On Tuesday, Jake Owen helped announce the 2011 CMA Awards nominees — but if he keeps going the direction he’s headed, he’ll be on the receiving end of a few of those awards.

Owen scored his first number one single this week, topping the Billboard and Mediabase/Country Aircheck charts with ‘Barefoot Blue Jean Night.’

“Wow … Thanks to every fan, songwriter and country radio for giving me my FIRST #1 record,” Owen tweeted to his followers after hearing the news. “I’m so blessed and thankful. Ahhh! Happy dance!!”

It’s not only Owen’s first number one. It’s also the first for the song’s writers, Eric Paslay, Dylan Altman and Terry Sawchuk.

“Everything just found us,” Pasley recalled during an interview with Taste of Country. “None of us had the title coming in that day. Once we got going, the lyrics sounded like a summertime anthem. We decided we wanted to give the people the chance to sing along with the song when they hear it. When we recorded the demo, you could hear that we were having a lot of fun with it. We weren’t sweating over the song in any way. I think we wrote it in two or three hours. It was such a fun experience.”

‘Barefoot Blue Jean Night’ is the title track to Owen’s third album, released last week.
