For those of us who love the guilty pleasure that McDonald’s food is, we have an answered prayer. According to New York Post columnist Kyle Smith, the McDouble is a wonderful way to eat healthy for cheap.

The $1 McDouble seems to be a miracle burger in disguise and is the biggest bang for your buck. According to Smith it is a great way to get a lot of calories for a little amount of money. The meat contains protein, you get dairy from the cheese and even some vegetables garnish this dream-come-true burger. But is this burger really the answer to everyone’s prayers? Is this burger some magic food? Is it really that healthy for you? Smith claims it is.

However, others claim that it is just as unhealthy for you as pretty much anything else on a fast food menu. According to these people, the McDouble seems to be loaded with sodium, cholesterol and antibiotic laced meat.

So, who is telling the truth? Is one right? Are they both right?

The fast food lover in me would love to believe that Smith is correct, and I could indulge in a big greasy burger and a box of fries without having to feel any guilt. But the runner and health conscience side of me thinks that I should never eat a burger and fries ,or I’ll end up with a muffin top the size of a wedding cake.

I’m sure the truth lies somewhere in the middle. There are foods out there that make the McDonald’s McDouble seem like a green salad with no dressing. Then there are also foods out that that make the McDouble seem like it is worse for you than smoking a carton of cigarettes a day.

I think the most important thing to remember is that too much of any one thing isn’t good for you. So enjoy a diversified diet, full of fresh fruits and vegetables, and even a little McDonald’s now and then.
