Is It Creek or Crick?

Creek or crick? (Photo courtesy Gwen’s River City Images/Flickr)

Do you say creek (eek or ick)?….Syrup (see or sir)?  Soda or pop?….It all depends on where you live. You can find out all that and more from work done by Joshua Katz, a researcher at North Carolina State University.

He studied data compiled by Bert Vaux of Cambridge University. I took a look at some of the results and it’s very obvious they talk different in the Southeastern part of the United States. Some things may surprise you. Like is it soda or pop? The map shows that it is a cosmopolitan term; soda in the city and pop in rural areas.
