When people look at me at first they think I'm in decent shape and healthy... but that is not reality. The fact of someones weight or physical appearance sometimes has nothing to do with being healthy. This is why I have decided to get off my but more and actually do something about this!

At first the thought of doing Pilates scared me. How difficult is this going to be? Will I catch on fast? How long will it take me to get comfortable? All questions I had before going to the class yesterday at Studio D Pilates downtown Missoula.

Avril is the instructor and first off, she is very kind and energetic. She is the kind of person that will help guide and motivate you to help strengthen your core. The core is the most important part of your body to keep strengthened and healthy, as it holds your entire body together. I learned how to isolate and exercise just a small group of muscles at a time to be able to slowly get my core where it should be. The nice thing about Pilates is your working all the muscle groups in your body, at different times. It's not a competition to see how much weight you can lift, or running for a long time on a treadmill or elliptical. It's doing simple exercise to strengthen what's already there and just till you feel comfortable. You know your own body best and that's what is great about Pilates, you strengthen the muscles only until you feel they are where they should be.
