How To Make Christmas Camo Cookies
For those who know me, I don't see the world in black and white. I see it in camouflage. As an avid outdoorsman, I spend more time picking out what camo to wear before a hunt, than I do picking out my daily clothes for work. I have spent hours in sporting goods stores trying on ever piece of camo, just to see if it matched my boots. That is why I like to incorporate my love for the outdoors into my holiday treats.
If you or someone in your family loves playing outside, try making some Camo Cookies this holiday season. The best part about them, is no one can see you take an extra.
Here is what you'll need:
1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 c butter
1 1/2 c white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Green food coloring
Brown icing dye (Found in specialty stores, or Walmart's cake decorating aisle in arts and crafts)
Black icing dye (Found in specialty stores, or Walmart's cake decorating aisle in arts and crafts)
1. Preheat over to 375 degrees.
2. Stir (or cream with hand mixer) butter and sugar together until smooth.
3. Stir in egg and vanilla.
4. In a separate bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
5. Add dry mixture to wet ingredients and combine. (You can also skip this step and add the dry ingredients straight to the wet ingredients.
6. Portion dough into four equal sections - set one aside.
7. In the first, make a well and add 12 drops of green food coloring.
8. Knead dough until color is visible and vibrant throughout the ball.
9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 with the brown dye, and the black dye on the remaining two dough sections.
10. To form cookies, pull a bit from each of the four dough balls and roll to combine in hand. The colors will not blend, so form whatever design you wish!
11. Line cookie sheet with parchment paper for easy lift. Drop rounded cookies onto sheet.
12. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes.
13. Cool on wire rack for 4 minutes.
