Montana Sports Information said on Monday afternoon that starting free-safety Matt Hermanson has been suspended from UM's upcoming game at Northern Arizona due to a violation of the student athlete code of conduct. [see story below]

A statement from Harmanson reads:

"I apologize to my coaches, teammates, university and the community for my actions that have resulted in my suspension. I am truly sorry. I know it is a privilege to be a Grizzly student-athlete and that we are held to a high standard. I am honored to be a student at the University of Montana. I am anxious to resolve this issue and move forward."

Matt Hermanson, 21, starting safety for the University of Montana football team, was arrested early Sunday morning, September 22, for allegedly damaging signs in the Fort Missoula area.

Sergeant Jeremiah Peterson with the Missoula County Sheriff's Office said early Monday morning, that Hermanson was charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief.

"He also had an outstanding speeding ticket warrant from the city of Missoula," Peterson said. "Alcohol is believed to be involved in the incident."

Peterson said Hermanson was taken to the Missoula County Detention Center, where he was released after posting bond.

Hermanson is a junior from Sioux Falls, South Dakota and is a two-year starter for the Grizzly football team.
