Montana center Brian Qvale has been named the MVP of the Griz men's basketball team, while guard Will Cherry has been named the team's outstanding defensive player for the second year in a row.

The awards were announced at a recent team dinner.

Qvale, a senior from Williston, N.D., led Montana with 14.9 points, 8.8 rebounds and three blocked shots per game. His rebounds and blocked shots also leading the Big Sky Conference. Green, a sophomore from Oakland, Calif., led the Big Sky with 2.6 steals per game. His season total of 79 steals is the second most in a year by a Griz player.

Guard Jordan Wood of Cedar City, Utah, received the Allan Nielsen award, which goes to the player who best represents Grizzly basketball, while forward Art Steward of Casper, Wyo., was named the team's most inspirational player.
