A potion in Pocatello? A magic gnome in the dome? Whatever the reason, there was Griz magic in the air. And the Montana Grizzlies escape with a 33-27 overtime win over Idaho State in Big Sky Conference football action.

Montana scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, but the offense would not get into the end zone again. Early in the second quarter, a J.R. Nelson interception returned for a touchdown makes the score 21-7 Griz, but UM manages only two field goals the rest of regulation and the Bengals fight back and take the lead 27-24. The Griz get a late field goal and we go to overtime.

Montana has to go first and pound the ball to the two, where quarterback Makena Simis, just as he did in an overtime loss to Weber State, fumbles the ball. It's Idaho State's turn and from the 25, they move the ball to the 17 and settle for a 34-yard field goal attempt.

This is where potions and gnomes and who-knows-what take over for the Griz. The ball is snapped way over the holder and kicker. In the scramble for the ball, Griz cornerback Eric Johnson scoops up the ball and runs for a touchdown! Ball game.

This is the kind of game that should have been played a week ago on Halloween! Griz back home vs. Eastern Washington next Saturday. See you there Griz Nation!  DB
