The University of Montana Grizzlies used dazzling special teams play and defense to beat the Liberty Flames of the Big South Conference 34 to 14 to advance their record to 2 and 1 before a crowd of just under 25,000 who endured a smoky afternoon at Washington Grizzly stadium.

A 90 yard punt return by Peter Nguyen started the scoring for Montana, the third longest punt return in Montana football history.

Zach Waggenman was named the player of the game for his multiple quarterback sacks and for knocking down a pass at the line of scrimmage. Linebacker Jordan Tripp picked off a pass, as did John Kanangata'a, and kicker Chris Lider punched out two field goals for the Griz.

The Flames scored two 4th quarter touchdowns to make the score a respectable 34 to 14. The Flames dropped to 0-3 for the season.

Up next for Montana, homecoming week, culminating with the Grizzlies' first conference game of the season against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks.
