The Friends of the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula are ready for Missoula’s Annual 4th of July Celebration. Monday, July 4 starts out with a huge pancake breakfast put on by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (for the benefit of the Friends) from 8:00 until 11:00, with entertainment and special events from 10:00 until 4:00.
This year’s festivities include: musical entertainment at the gazebo by the Montana Tuba Chorale at 10:00, Black Mountain Boys at 11:00, Silk Stocking at 12:00 and 2:00, City Clickers at 1:30, and RiverRock at 3:00. On hand throughout the day will be model trains; ham radios; children’s games; crafts; food; special displays; tours of the lookout, schoolhouse and locomotive; demonstrations of the historic sawmill, and telegraph; historical surveying; fire trucks; and lots more. Special again this year, the Western Montana Antique Power Association will be having an antique engine and tractor show on July 3 and 4, with a tractor parade at 1:45 on the 4th.
The Museum is also very pleased to announce the Grand Opening of the newly restored and renovated Homestead Cabin – complete with the Brian Hall Quartet playing fiddle, banjo, and guitar; old-fashioned games; farm animals from the Missoula County Public School Ag. Center; demonstrations and hands-on with laundering, spinning wool, grinding wheat, and rope-making. Come visit and enjoy a celebratory treat on us.
As a fundraiser for the Friends of the Historical Museum, admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, $2 for students, $15 for a family, and children under 6 and members of the Friends of the Museum are free. The Pancake Breakfast is a separate price - $5 per person or $15 per family – what a deal!
