He was much more than a radio DJ or voice over talent. Jim Kampmann was a teacher, someone who inspired others and most importantly a family man. Kampmann or "Kampy" as he was known by everyone was a happy go lucky man who always seemed to find the positive in things. As a college student of his, from Green River Community College in Auburn, WA there was never a day that I wasn't truly excited to go to Kampy's production class.

Kampy was always willing to share is trade secrets with any student that was willing to learn. College can be difficult but he seemed to make his classes easier for you, while still teaching you everything that you needed to know to be successful. I never heard Kampy say one negative thing about any student or the work they they did for his class. He was proud of the work his students did and he was passionate to make them better, and he always did make us better.

I still remember telling Kampy that I had an interview with Sandusky Radio in Bellevue, WA back in 2006, so the day before my interview he took it upon himself to mention me to General Manager Marc Kaye. That's the kind of guy he was, willing to do anything to help out.

Looking at Kampy's daughter's (Marya Kampmann) Facebook page before the celebration of his life made me remember how funny Kampy always was. She quoted a joke that Kampy used to use with his wife, "If I die first I want you to hire a ton of out-of-work actresses to sit and wail at his funeral." Kampy's family decided to have the celebration without the actresses but I could definitely hear Kampy saying that.

Although I didn't know Kampy's family personally he was always talking about them in class. Just like on the radio his life was an open book for anyone who wanted to listen. He was an entertainer, but I think he was most proud of his family. Kampy was on stations from Montana to Idaho to Washington and voiced commercials for companies across the world. He was an amazing man who will be missed dearly. We'll definitely miss you Kampy, but one this is for sure, you will not be forgotten.
