Former Missoula County Sheriff's Deputy Larry Schwindt appeared in justice court on Tuesday and entered a guilty plea to charges that he had an illegal sexual relationship with a 17 year-old boy that began in 2012.

Missolula County Attorney Fred Van Valkenburg outlined the charges against Schwindt.

"He entered guilty pleas to the offenses of official misconduct and unlawful transactions with children," Van Valkenburg said. "Essentially, this case revolved around an inappropriate relationship he had while he was a deputy sheriff with a 17 year-old boy. He was trying to provide beer to the boy in exchange for sexual acts performed on him."

Van Valkenburg said Tuesday's court appearance was the final act in a drama that began last year.

"He had already been fired from the sheriff's department, and his guilty plea today makes sure that he can no longer work in law enforcement in the future," Van Valkenburg said  "He got a one year suspended sentence, a $1,000 fine and various court costs, and is prohibited from having any contact with children under the age of 18. We were satisfied with that, and I think this was the appropriate result in the case."
