Lolo National Forest spokesman Boyd Hartwig says ‘Fire Season has come to Western Montana’, and he has two rapidly growing fires to prove it. The Butler Fire has doubled in size to over 80 acres in the last 24 hours as it burns a few miles from Frenchtown Pond.

The False Point fire burning in the Skapegoat Wilderness area not far from the Clearwater Junction has grown to over 300 acres in size. Hartwig says considerably more effort is being put into fighting the Butler Fire, as it is burning nearer to a populated area. There are three Hot-Shot crews, two helicopters and tankers dropping retardant on that fire.
