With so many hunters in our state, Montanans can relate to the all-out efforts that go into finding one that's lost.

But in this case, search and rescue teams were not necessary. Not that they didn't get the process started. They just got called off when it turned out the lost hunter was sleeping one off in jail.

Associated Press tells us that Randy Keith of Hartselle, Alabama was reported lost after he did not return home in a timely manner from a hunting trip. With no cellphone on him, concerned relatives had no way of contacting him, so they called authorities. Out went the dogs, the firefighters, a helicopter...and then local police were alerted. That's when they heard his last name.

It turns out Hunter Randy had been arrested for public intoxication prior to the search efforts. I assume he didn't fill his tags. His flask, maybe. But not his tags.
