I got suckered into watching an episode of "Pitbulls and Paroles" on Animal Planet. It was actually pretty good. In the episode I watched, an ex-com was trying to explain to some troubled teens that volunteering to help rescue dogs is more rewarding than getting paid to flip burgers. The same can be said for volunteering versus donating money. A new study shows that donating money only makes you feel good for a short period, while volunteering can make you feel good for weeks.

According to Daily Mail

Giving to charity makes donors glow with happiness for up to 24 days later.

Whether it is giving up time or reaching deep into your pocket, the act of altruism gives them a positive psychological boost.

Those who donate money feel positive for a week, but for those who sacrifice their time the effect lasts up to 24 days.

Women who gave up their time had the greatest emotional impact with the effect lasting on average 20 days longer then men.

And young adults aged 18 to 24 claimed they had the longest lasting glow of happiness at 34 days.

If you are looking for a little "pick me up" and would like to buy a little "glow," then you can help us "Feed MT." We are teaming up with feedmt.org to try and help the Montana Food Bank Network stock up for their busy season. Find out more how you can help.
