Dog’s Last Heroics Save Owner

For all the dog lovers out there---which we know is most of our listeners---this is one of those lump in throat stories. The Associated Press reports that it was a final act of faithfulness by a dog to his owner in Wamego, Kansas. A dog woke its owner after fire broke out at the house. The dog roused him out of his sleep, he heard the smoke detectors going off and was able to escape. But his dog didn't make it. Authorities say the fire started on the front porch. Arson is suspected. I don't think Chili the black lab would be smart enough to do that, because smarts ain't exactly her strong suit. But she gets an extra cookie after our walk tonight anyway, just to let her know how much we love and appreciate her. DB
