Lot of Montana mushroom pickers out there. It ends up in fights sometimes. And it might get even more competitive.

Whether Montana mushrooms have the medicinal magic researchers are now talking about remains to be seen, but science says it's more than just a catchy phrase for a way to get high.

A couple of new studies from very credible universities show certain mushrooms can quickly and effectively help treat anxiety and depression for lengthy periods of time. It turns out the drug psilocybin, derived from mushrooms, was tested successfully on some cancer patients during research with New York University and Johns Hopkins.

They also emphasize these are preliminary findings with lots more work to do. Oh, and of course: kids, don't try this at home. Don't administer treat to yourself or others with illegal mushrooms.

Science marches on, even out in the woods.   DB
