University of Montana Athletic Director Jean Gee confirmed Friday that former Grizzly quarterback Jordan Johnson will be able to keep his athletic scholarship, should he decide to return to classes in the fall. Gee said that despite the charge of sexual intercourse without consent leading to Johnson’s suspension from the football team, his scholarship remains intact.

Gee says the scholarship is separate from team activities, and is the result of a contract between The University of Montana and Johnson. If he had simply walked away from the team and refused to play, his scholarship would have been voided, but due to the circumstances of his situation, he did not leave the team voluntarily, hence, the scholarship remains in place.
