City To Build Hazardous Household Waste Facility

Rather than asking Missoula area residents to save up their household hazardous waste such as paint and disposing of them quarterly, the City of Missoula has proposed its own new facility.

At Monday night's regular Missoula City Council meeting, Ward One's Brian von Lossberg said the plan has been coming together between several different agencies.

"There's been a planning effort for quite some time among this collaborative group to actually have a small facility so that we're not limited as a community to having that drop-off just once or twice a year, but rather that you could do it year-round," von Lossberg said. "Phillips 66 will donate $125,000 to the design, construction and operation of the new facility. Republic Services will donate $50,000. The city will provide use of City-owned land near the Wastewater Treatment Plant."

The Water Quality District plans to complete construction of the new collection facility later this year.
