Cherry Is Top Guard Candidate
The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts announced recently that University of Montana guard Will Cherry is one of the candidates for the 2012 Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award. A 6-1 junior from Oakland, Calif. Cherry is Montana's leading scorer at 14.6 points a game, which ranks him fourth in the Big Sky Conference. He is also among the league leaders in assists (3.17 per game) and steals (2.1 pg). Cherry was a first team all-league selection last season. The annual honor, named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic Bob Cousy, recognizes the top point guards in college basketball. The winner of the 2012 Bob Cousy Award will be presented at the Hall of Fame's Class Announcement on Championship Monday in New Orleans as part of NCAA Final Four weekend.
