A bit of a respite from the summer heat has our Friends of Frozen ready to get things up and rolling.

Missoula's Glacier Ice Rink is opening for the season this Friday, September 1. With leagues, practices, tryouts and so much more, the rink is always a very busy place. But they are going to carve a little time out for you and your family on both Saturday and Sunday.

It's "Cheap Skates" time. Join Glacier Ice Rink for discounted public skating sessions over the Labor Day weekend. The one-hour sessions are limited to 60 skaters, so advance online registration is encouraged. Admission and skate rentals are $6, and children 4 and under are free. Cheap Skate times are scheduled for Saturday from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. and again on Sunday from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

Glacier Ice Rink, located on the Missoula County Fairgrounds, has provided hockey and other recreational ice skating activities for the Missoula community since 1997. The non-profit organization has grown from its modest beginnings in a converted cow barn into the wonderful facility it is today.

Each year, more than 25,000 people visit Glacier Ice Rink for the youth and adult hockey and skating programs and all the external user groups who rent ice time. They do not receive Missoula County funding, instead generating income through program fees, ice time rentals, and of course, the generosity of sponsors and donors. It is definitely one of those "Missoula things."

If you would like to get on board (on ice?) early for Cheap Skates, can check this weekend's schedule and advance ticket purchase options here.
