Can Your Body Make Its Own Booze?

This is a weird condition. It even has its own term, which is kind of weird, too. Since many of you are probably working off hangovers, we thought we'd serve up a little hair of the dog.

But this suspected over-consumption of alcohol wasn't consumed at all. It was made by her body!

Associated Press tells us that a woman in Albany, New York, had her DUI case dismissed, even though she had a blood-alcohol content over four times the legal limit. She suffers from a condition known as "auto-brewery syndrome." Not kidding. What happens is your digestive system turns ordinary food into alcohol. The woman's lawyer presented medical evidence and the case was thrown out.

With a brewery body, I guess you have to be careful not to eat and drive since that means you drink and drive. At least auto-brewery syndrome is far more believable than that creepy kid in Texas who negligently killed four people, whose attorney got him off with a slap on the wrist because he suffers from "affluenza" (being raised too wealthy).  DB
