River levels have dropped in Missoula in the past 24 hours. Checks at the California St. Footbridge and the McClay Bridge show the levels have gone down from 8”-12” at both locations. The color of the water has changed as well; it used to look like coffee with a lot of milk in it now it looks like milky green tea. I’d guess that’s from less sediment in the water. There are also fewer logs and snags floating down now. All the island trash floated off them when the waters rose. Forecasters are calling for more rain over the next couple of days, which will have a big impact on river levels; it’s also supposed to be cooler so those two factors may play against each other. Whatever happens the long range prediction is for higher than normal flows possibly into mid-summer.
