The World Cup kicks off today (Thursday) in Brazil and the host country will win its first-round match – according to a psychic turtle.
Brazil turned to its favorite loggerhead turtle named Cabecao, or Big Head, to predict a winner in the opening round match against Croatia. Big Head was given the choice of two meals – fish attached to a Brazilian flag or fish attached to a Croatian flag. Big Head first ate the fish attached to a soccer ball, which would indicate a draw, but then swam over to the Brazilian flag and ate that fish. Hey, he's no dummy. He knows where he is and how important soccer is to Brazil.
Big Head the turtle is one of many animal predictors, a trend which started before the 2010 World Cup with Germany's Paul the Octopus who correctly predicted the outcome of eight matches. (Time)
