It’s arriving a year too late to commemorate the true anniversary of the occasion, but a new double-disc collection has brought together some of country and rock’s biggest names to honor Mark Twain 100 years after his death.

The set, titled ‘Mark Twain: Words & Music,’ features contributions from Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Brad Paisley, Sheryl Crow, Ricky Skaggs, Joe Diffie, Clint Eastwood, and Jimmy Buffett, among many others.

Produced and assembled by Grammy-winning producer, musician, and songwriter Carl Jackson, ‘Words & Music’ tells the story of Twain’s life using spoken-word segments interspersed with songs inspired by the author’s work. Buffett, who is distributing the album through his Mailboat Records imprint, provides the voice of Huck Finn, while Eastwood lends his voice to the role of Twain. Garrison Keillor narrates the complete project.

Though the album was originally planned for release last year, Jackson took additional time to assemble the right lineup, and the results, like the work that inspired them, speak for themselves. ‘Words & Music,’ which also comes with a 40-page booklet containing details of Twain’s life, is available now from the Mark Twain Museum.
