On Friday, Grizzly football entered a new, fast-moving era, as Bob Stitt was introduced as the program's 36th head coach.

Stitt comes to Missoula from the Colorado School of Mines, where he compiled an impressive record of 108-62 in his 15 year tenure, and a conference record of 83-44. Stitt is credited with introducing the 'fly-sweep' play, and is known inside coaching circles as one of the great offensive minds in the country.

Stitt promised to bring new excitement to Montana football, with a fast-moving, up-tempo style of play. In fact, he said fans can expect his teams to run nearly 90 offensive plays per game, while still running the ball and emphasizing Montana's already great defense. Stitt said the Colorado School of Mines was the fastest football team in the country last year, while Baylor was second.

Stitt will retain several of the assistant coaches from Mick Delaney's staff, including defensive coordinator Ty Gregorak, running backs coach Justin Green, and defensive line coach Legi Suiaunoa. He will be bringing four members of his staff from the Colorado School of Mines to Missoula.

Stitt told KGVO News that he has never attended a football game inside Washington Grizzly Stadium, and, as of Friday afternoon, had not met any of the players. He said he was looking forward to meeting all the players and getting to know the community, the university and Griz Nation.
