Blake Shelton Says Goodbye to Erin Willett

Blake Shelton couldn’t choose between the two contestants left on Team Blake. Fortunately for him, he didn’t have to. On Tuesday night (May 1), America chose Jermaine Paul to be the lone representative from the country coach’s team when the show begins its final descent next week.

The decision was a combination of viewer input and judge choice. Like the other three coaches, Shelton had 100 points to separate between Paul and Erin Willett, and he split them evenly.

“There is not an ego standing on that stage, besides Carson,” he said, referring to host Carson Daly. “I don’t want to be a part of this decision-making process anymore. They’ve done everything they can do. I’ve done everything I can do. Now it’s up to America.”

America overwhelmingly favored the former Alicia Keys backup singer to move on. Both he and Willett had delivered solid performances week after week, and both had stories that made them easy to cheer for.

“Jermaine took a huge step, walking away from a really good gig,” Shelton said. “Erin has been through a personal hell and back, losing her father. But she stands there and she has so much strength.”

Shelton also ranked the two as some of the top singers on the planet, and assured fans watching at home that they’d hear from Willett again. Next Monday is the final performance show, with the results being announced on Tuesday. Only one of the final four can be crowned ‘The Voice.’

Though Team Blake’s last standing isn’t a country singer, fans of the genre should still tune in, as Lady Antebellum is scheduled to sing on Tuesday. ‘The Voice’ Season 2 finale airs in a special time on May 8 at 7PM on KECI NBC 13.
