I suppose it's tricky. You want to stay true to your mission. On the other hand, is it worth the bad publicity? And the fine? Or will new customers come in who have never heard of the place, but admired them sticking to their policy?

Well, enough waffling from me, let's get to what happened in Washington, Pennsylvania. Associated Press tells us that Barbiere, a high-end gentlemen's barbershop that offers complimentary beers and spirits, was fined by the state's Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs. They took a little off Barbiere's top: $750 bucks for gender discrimination.

The owner says the fine infringes on his shop's environment, because "guys come in here as a kind of getaway, to be around other guys."

A female customer had booked appointments online for her and her boyfriend. But she was turned away. The owner's staff recommended other shops and even offered to pay for her haircut somewhere else to compensate for the inconvenience.

So, what do you think? Denny says take the high road. You will not be overrun by female customers just because one gal came in and wanted a haircut date with her boyfriend. You'd still be a men's barbershop and you'd still have a pair. And 750 more dollars than you do today.  DB
