Weather and snow conditions have combined to create some very hazardous situations in the Northern Rockies. In just a little over a week four people have died from avalanches. Two near Cooke City and two more in the Flint Range near Philipsburgh. There’s a valuable website for all back country recreationists that is updated regularly; missoulaavalanche.org , their advisory area includes the Bitterroot Mountains from Lost Trail Pass North to Lookout Pass, the Rattlesnake Mountains and the Southern Swan and Mission Mountains near Seeley Lake. They also invite you to let them know about your experiences and observations you make out in the woods.
