Missoula County Fire Danger Increased to Very High [AUDIO]
The Missoula Fire Protection Association in conjunction with local wildland fire partners, the Missoula County Office of Emergency Management and the Missoula City-County Health Department have moved fire danger in Missoula County to VERY HIGH as of Monday, July 30th.
Nine New Lightning Fires in Bitterroot Forest [AUDIO]
Recent lightning storms that brought an estimated 3500 lightning strikes in the Bitterroot National Forest area have resulted in at least nine new wildfires, as of Sunday afternoon. Forest spokesman Tod McKay says his office has received hundreds of calls from concerned people about seeing smoke in the forest, most of which are referring to the nine fires than have been confirmed.

Missoula Theater Goers React to Colorado Shooting [AUDIO]
At least one Missoula theater-goer was unfazed by the massacre of 12 people and the wounding of 70 others at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado early Friday morning. KGVO news spoke with several individuals heading towards the theater. One man commented that he had heard about the shootings, but said ‘it was an isolated incident’
Structure Fire in Lolo [AUDIO]
Missoula Rural Fire responded to a 9-1-1 call of a structure fire at the Days Inn in Lolo at about 11:10 Thursday morning where smoke and flames were visible coming from the north side of the building and the roof. Firefighters were just wrapping up their work knocking down the fire at about 1:30 Thursday afternoon.
Western Montana Fair 2012 Preview [AUDIO]
The 2012 Western Montana Fair is August 7th through the 12th and this year’s theme is ‘Ropin’, Ridin’ and Rememberin’, celebrating the 100th anniversary of Montana 4-H. National Weather Service forecaster Ryan Leach says Western Montana and Eastern Idaho experienced over a thousand lightning strikes from Sunday’s thunderstorms, however, he says Lake County felt the brunt of the storms.
Update – One Dead in Butler Creek House Fire [AUDIO]
Saturday evening at 6:40 a house fire was reported in the 9800 block of Butler Creek Road. Missoula County Sheriff’s Department spokesmen Jason Johnson says one man was killed in the fire, which Johnson says may have also involved an explosion of some type.
Gerald Kemp No Longer on Griz Football Team
KGVO News learned from interim University of Montana Athletics Director Jean Gee on Friday that quarterback and running back Gerald Kemp is no longer on the Grizzly football team. Gee says Kemp was removed from the team for ‘violation of team rules’.
Storm Sparks Three New Fires in Bitterroot Forest
Firefighters are currently on the scene of three new lightning caused wildfires burning in the Bitterroot National Forest. All of the fires were discovered this afternoon and were likely started by lightning from last night’s dry thunderstorms. Two firefighters were flown in by helicopter to one of the more remote fires burning on the West Fork Ranger District northwest of Bare Cone Lookout
