This past spring I was totally nuts for ice. I would eat cup after cup of ice, chewing, crunching and annoying everyone around me. I couldn’t help it. I just craved ice and I couldn’t get enough. I didn’t think this was particularly strange. I just thought that I had developed a habit, a bad habit at that. However, when I went in for my yearly check-up, I was surprised to find that my iron levels were very low and craving ice was a symptom of anemia.
A few years ago I was at a get-together and someone brought this soup to it. I loved it and absconded with the recipe before the night was over. Since then, it has been a staple cold-weather meal in our house.
This seems like something that would happen in Montana. I’m sure it probably has. Recently, a Colorado man lost his driver’s license so he decided to ride his horse to his brother’s wedding in Utah, 600 miles away. Since it’s not like he could just take the chance and drive his car without his license. No, the only option he had was to ride his horse across two states.
The recent colder weather has been making me itch for some pumpkin. I can taste it. Fall is just around the corner, and with it comes pumpkin season. It’s the time of year when pumpkin flavored everything appears.
In some states public schools have initiated an annual student weigh-in. The students’ body mass indexes are measured and the reports is sent home letting the parents know if the parents and student should be concerned about the child’s weight.
I’m quite anxious for fall to finally get here. It’s my favorite time of year. I love the cooler weather, the leaves changing color and the pumpkin flavored everything. Pumpkin is the mascot for fall. I love everything about it, the color, the smell and the taste.
There is a rumor going around that fall flavored beer is already out on store shelves. Apparently some beer drinkers are upset because they think that summer isn’t over yet. These beer lovers don’t want to even see a fall flavored beer until the leaves start to fall. However, I love fall, and would be thrilled to have pumpkin spice beer in the middle of July if I could get it.
I purchased a few chickens this spring and started my backyard chicken farm. I must admit that I was a little apprehensive at first as to exactly how things would go. I worried about my chickens running off if they were let out of the coop. I was concerned other animals would get into their coop and eat them. The thing that scared me the most was that my husband has a bird dog.
I am a big Nutella fan. It is just the right mix of hazelnut and chocolate in a delicious creamy spread. My kids love to eat it on plain bread or with jam. It’s a great substitute for peanut butter. I like to use it instead of peanut butter in recipes. Just make sure that the recipe you’re using it in calls for creamy peanut butter and not crunchy.
I’m one of those people who loves cooking. I love cooking with recipes that call for cans of soup because they seem to make the recipes quicker and easier. However, I hate how expensive soup is now. I can remember a time when soup was 50 cents per can. Now you’re lucky to find it on sale for a dollar a can. So, when I ran across a recipe that allows me to make cream of anything soup for just a few cents. I was excited.
Just because the weather gets a little colder soon, doesn’t mean that Missoula and Western Montana close the blinds and hibernate for the winter. In fact, the opposite is true. There is just as much to enjoy about our fair city when the snow flies, as when the sun shines 20 hours a day
