High school basketball tournaments were going on all across the state this weekend. As I traveled back down the Bitterroot Saturday from the Darby wrestling tournament, Hamilton was all the buzz with folks watching the Class C Tourney.
Being an avid recycler myself I can appreciated what this woman is trying to accomplish. She is having a little creative fun by taking what others discard and turning it into something useful. Jennifer McGahan isn't too shy to admit that she begged her neighbor for a used cigarette butt, but it wasn't to feed any sort of habit.
I was talking with a co-worker this morning and he brought up a good point when discussing expanding into forest service land, "What about the Mac Clay Ski Area?" It turned out to be quite a controversial topic when the proposal came up. Tom Mac Clay wanted to use his own property for the resort and then expand into forest service land on the Lolo Peak area for the runs. If I recall, he also needed to make artificial snow and wanted to use the runoff on the mountain to create that. I know there are similarities and differences when it comes to what each ski hill is proposing but it brings up the question, should Snowbowl expand when Mac Clay couldn't? The Lolo National Forest is accepting public comment on a planned expansion of the Montana Snowbowl ski area just north of Missoula.
The regular season is just about over for the Montana Lady Griz but the ladies can't afford an injured player with two games to go. Montana guard Torry Hill says she's out for the season with a broken right ankle.
We are in the first few weeks of the Little Guy Wrestling season. The hosts of the Mission Mountain Wrestling Tournament Friday and Saturday did a great job organizing the event. My son's team, the Bonner Lumberjacks came out strong with five of their wrestlers competing for first and second place Friday night. Coming up this weekend is the Darbarian Classic in Darby. The Darby Wrestling Club holds a Firewood Raffle every year for a team fundraiser.
No, I didn't watch the Oscars last night. Can you blame me? Nothing against Anne Hathaway or James Franco but where was the entertainment?
These were supposed to be the younger, hipper Academy Awards, the ones that shook up the ceremony's conventions with popular, great-looking emcees in actors James Franco and Anne Hathaway, who were unlike the middle-aged comedians and TV talk-show hosts of years past.
I prefer Unconstitutional Avenue myself. Some D.C. residents are angered they can't vote because they don't have statehood. Sounds like taxation without representation. A D.C. Council member wants to highlight the city's lack of statehood and is asking residents to pick another name for Pennsylvania Avenue.
Youth wrestling is under way in Montana and spectators at a wrestling tournament in Butte got their admissions worth as a dad picked a fight with his son's coach. I'm a very enthusiastic wrestling parent myself but come on. This is one of the reasons why they ask parents and spectators to stay in the bleachers and let the coaches do their jobs.
An Anaconda man faces a charge of disorderly conduct after witnesses said he fought with his son's wrestling coach during a weekend tournament in Butte.
About a week ago we mentioned on the air and on our website that Carrie Underwood's hockey husband is now playing for the Nashville team. He played for The Ottawa Senators for about 10 years. Well it seems that the city of Ottawa isn't too happy about losing Mike.
The rookie, now a Daytona 500 winner, won't be celebrating with any spirits because he isn't even old enough to drink! Trevor Bayne won the crash-filled race yesterday afternoon, one day after celebrating his 20th birthday. Trevor Bayne finally made a mistake. Fortunately for him, it didn't happen until he missed the turn pulling into Victory Lane at the Daytona 500.
This story grabbed my attention this morning because I have a 11 year old son who is a wrestler. At practice he is paired up with a 11 year old girl (which he also attends school with) to spar with. Last year when he first started wrestling he was a little apprehensive about grabbing her and forcing her around until he was completely dominated by her skills as a wrestler. Yes, the girl is much better than my son and that is O.K. to say, even he will admit it. My point is this, if girls want to wrestle, great. More power to them.
I visited a wax museum of the presidents on our family vacation to South Dakota last summer. I was more impressed with the figures than any of my three kids were. (and that is saying something because it was raining outside) Education is great but I'm not convinced students rather take a tour of the presidents than music icons. A new gallery opening in Washington will show wax figures of all 44 U.S. presidents together in the nation's capital for the first time.
