An interesting species of dinosaur skeleton discovered in Montana has been named “Obamadon” because it had long, straight teeth like the President. Donald Trump immediately demanded to see the fossil’s birth certificate. Just kidding! No. But we are serious about the dinosaur part..
A candlelight vigil remembering the victims of Friday's shootings in Connecticut will be held at 4p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18 at Rose Park in Missoula off of Brooks Street.
Event creator Kayla Kelly Somefeld decided to host the vigil event after hearing of the events in Newtown, Conn. where 28 people, including 20 children, were shot and killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Remember the ending of the movie "A Christmas Story" where the family had to settle for duck at an oriental cafe because it was the only place open? I remember a holiday far worse than that! Years ago when my wife and I had all of our family members snowed in at their homes and all we could enjoy was a can of Sparks and some beef jerky from the convenience store. N
Want to get the attention of the White House? Send them a letter stating that you, and currently 11,138 others, want to start your own government. That is exactly what Montana, and many other states in our nation, our doing at this very moment.
Currently, our nation's capital is drawing its attention towards recently published online petitions attempting to allow the State of Montana to "withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government," according to an online letter to the Obama Administration.
It's a battle for bragging rights, as Griz-Cat fever is heating up before the big game! A couple months ago Bozeman presented their version of Toby Keith's "Red Solo Cup," which they titled "Blue Bobcat Cup." Some Cat fans started whispering about whether Missoula could top their spirited video, which, yes, touts that the Cats are better than the Griz.
Well, don't worry Griz fans... we found the answer! Yes, yes we can top that video!
It's November. And, while Thanksgiving is but a memory for most of us, store managers are already looking ahead to Christmas.
Toys R Us, a store that I wish would one day come to our city (old K-Mart? Anyone?), has come out with its "Hot Toy" list for the upcoming holiday season. The list is their best guess as to which will be this year's best selling toys.
Before I moved to Missoula, I lived in Kalispell and had made many good friends over the course of years that I stayed there. Back in 2004, money never really seemed to be too much of an issue. But then again, that was before the entire global market came to a screeching halt. Since then, the lack of jobs and income has washed up large cities like Detroit and even as close as Spokane. We thought that perhaps Montana could be able to sustain itself with the tighter knit communities and small town prices. We were wrong.
A record 170 million people plan to celebrate Halloween this year – and spending on the holiday is expected to rise to $8 billion, up 17.5 percent from last year. The average person will spend about $79.82 on decorations, costumes and candy, up from $72.31 last year.
But what are people in Missoula dressing up the most as this year? Melanie Lerum, manager of Spirit Halloween on Brooks Street, shares her store's best-selling costumes - the one's you'll likely see roaming our local streets this weekend.
The moment I heard about this event coming to the Adams Center I literally leaped out of my chair and ran into my daughter's room screaming "Elmo is coming! Elmo is coming!" She looked at me like I lost my mind - like that's anything new. Perhaps I'm a bit more excited for this show than she is, simply because I know how cool this event is going to be for both her and I.
And now, you and your family will hopefully be as excited as I am when I serve up a four-pack of tickets to this fun, and furry, family outing. Here's how to win..
A photo is beginning to make the rounds on Facebook this evening showing a unique, albeit shocking, way to transport a farm animal. While it's unclear exactly where this traffic violation (it is a violation, isn't it?) occurred, rumors point to the possibility of it happening in the state of Montana very recently. One thing is for sure, we certainly hope the cow was unharmed in the process.
