Aol was one of the first names I remember in email and the online start-up. Verizon has announced that it will acquire AOL in a stock deal valued at $4.4 billion. The onetime American Online, a pioneer in E-mail and web access in the early '90s, was for a time part of a huge media venture with Time-Warner. The new move is expected to give the phone company the opportunity to become more of a content provider.

Good news for people on Verizon? Hopefully will allow more options.
