With all those adorable curls, maybe they ought to start calling it a "Permy."

Regardless, the American Kennel Club thought enough of our curly friend to welcome it to the Westminster and lots of other U.S. dog shows.

It was announced today (Wednesday) that the pumi, a Hungarian herding dog, becomes the 190th breed to be recognized by the AKC.  It will be eligible to compete for "Best of Breed" next February.

As you can probably tell by the photo, lots of cute corkscrew curls. It's a medium-sized dog with a strong work ethic that has been used for centuries in Hungary to herd livestock. The pumi has ears that flop at the tips and a delightful, quizzical look that seems to say, "Why the hell did it take the AKC so long to give me some props?"
