I’ve been a fan of Merle Haggard since his early days. My list of favorites pretty much reflects that. I guess it’s the way he sings, combined with his lyrics that I enjoy the most. He’s capable of capturing so much in so few words, and then making you feel it when he sings.

Merle has faced some health challenges over the past few years. They’ve forced him to slow down a little bit, but he still tours. I was fortunate enough to see him over in Butte a couple of years ago (see attached pictures). It was a packed house (it was after all Butte America), and he had the crowd on their feet singing along and loving him for sharing his music with them.

Several years ago he wrote an autobiography titled "Sing Me Back Home." When you read the book you get a much better understanding of the man and his music.

The pictures I’ve included are from his show in Butte. We hit the M&M after the show, Merle would’ve like that place.
