A massive fire tore through a popular western Montana restaurant late Sunday.

The blaze began around 10:30 p.m. at the Nine Mile House, located off Highway 10 just west of Huson.

The Frenchtown Rural Fire District helped battle flames, along with crews from Missoula Rural and East Missoula Rural Fire Districts.

Officials do not believe anyone was inside at the time.

Mel Holtz with the Frenchtown Fire Department said the building is a "complete loss."

Another firefighter described the fire scene as looking "very bad."

Firefighters said they were able to stop the spread of flames to nearby buildings.

As of 2 a.m., crews were still working to get the fire under control.

There is no word yet on a cause of the fire.
