36 year-old Scott Anthony Charlie was arrested on Tuesday afternoon and placed on $50,000 bond in connection with the disappearance of his disabled son.

Missoula Police spokesman Travis Welsh described what happened.

“At about 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday, we received a report of a runaway,” said Welsh. “He is a 13 year-old boy who was sent out of a store on North Reserve Street to a car because he was acting out, and when his guardian returned to the car she noticed right away that he was not there and that he had apparently left and was not there to meet her. She immediately called 9-1-1. The boy was identified as 13 year-old Donivan Charlie. There are not from the area and she was concerned due to the medical diagnosis that he had and the medication that he was supposed to take.”

Welsh said the boy was found later with a relative.

“It was determined later in the day that the boy was with his non-custodial father at a residence in East Missoula,” he said. “His father was taken into custody, identified as 36 year-old Scott Anthony Charlie, and he was taken into custody on charges related to the disappearance of his son.”

The boy was recovered safely and was returned to his guardian after a MEPA alert was sent to all media outlets in western Montana.
