20 year-old Joseph Peasely appeared in Missoula Justice Court twice on Tuesday. Once for a probation violation, and then for felony assault with a weapon, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Bail was set at $50,000 by Judge John Odlin, who refused an attempt by a public defender to have the bail lowered to $1,500, noting that Peasely had just been placed on probation less than a month ago on a charge of assault with a weapon.

Deputy County Attorney Jason Marks said Peasely was arrested on Sunday after allegedly threatening a man with a weapon and then fleeing when officers arrived. Marks said Peasely jumped into the Clark Fork River and dropped a handgun into the water. The weapon was retrieved by officers and introduced into evidence.
