Driving in the snow, ice, and slush can be stressful. But I have tips to make them a little easier and ways for you to stay safe.

1. Safety First - Before starting a trip with bad driving conditions ask yourself if you need to take the trip. Can it be avoided for a day or two until road conditions improve?

2. Stay Up To Date - Technology has made road conditions and weather changes easier to keep informed about. Use this to your advantage to avoid unpredictable weather situations. Remember we always keep you updated on the KYSS-FM Facebook page.

3. Be Prepared - More than just a Boy Scout's motto, this could mean the difference between life an death. Make sure you have plenty of gas, food and water inside your vehicle, and clothes/blankets to keep warm. If you get trapped you will need these items, don't put yourself in a bad situation.

4. Time Management - Don't rush! If you cannot be late for work, leave at least fifteen minutes prior to your normal time if dealing with bad road conditions. Also, just cause you have four wheel drive that doesn't mean your invincible. Slow and steady wins the race, and also avoids a call to your insurance agent.

5. Don't Stress - Everything other than driving doesn't matter, when you are behind the wheel during the winter months. Don't even look at your phone, don't put on make up, or try to eat while driving. With the horrible road conditions we are facing, you need to pay full attention to the road and your vehicle.

BE SAFE AND IF YOU CAN AVOID DRIVING, DO SO!
