The first day of summer is here. Or as the Hippies and Pagans call it: “The Solstice.” It is the longest day of the year. Which means don't freak out when you leave an after hours party and the sun is coming up. Here is a list of 5 things I like to do to celebrate the first day of Summer.

    Fishing

If the weather is nice, like it is supposed to be, fishing has got to be one of my favorite things to do on the first day of summer. Whether you drown a worm in a puddle or tie on a salmon fly and wade into the water, fishing is a good way to enjoy the sunshine. My Fishing Tip: Rock Creek and the Bitterroot River are starting to see salmon flies. Which means the fish are fired up and ready to eat.

    Baseball

Unfortunately the Osprey are away until June 21st. But nothing screams “SUMMER” like double-fisting Big Sky's Summer Honey and heckling the visiting team's bullpen. Check out their full schedule.

    Water

With a high temperature forecasted this summer, I enjoy nothing more than a little dip in the H2O. Splash Montana is open June 11 - August 28 on 3001 Bancroft. Or you can try your luck at floating the Blackfoot or Clark Fork. But I wouldn't recommend that just yet. Might get the “scared turtle” complex if you are a dude. The water may still be a little too cold.

    BBQ

The least you can do is try and cremate a burger on the grill. Grilling is one of the oldest forms of cooking your food. And surprisingly hard to mess up. I recommend kabobs (meat, peppers and onions on a stick) or just a good ol' fashioned hunk of beef.

    "You Honk We Drink!"

On a beautiful summer day, sitting in the house is not an option. If you can't find yourself leaving the house today. At least drag a chair and a cooler out to the yard. One thing I enjoy doing is taking a piece of card board and write "U HONK, I DRINK!" Think of it as a good way to interact with your neighbors as well as catch some rays and a buzz.
