With the Christmas season upon us, it’s time for secret Santas. It doesn’t seem to matter if you work or not, just about any group, club or job you do will have a secret Santa exchange. The hardest part of being a secret Santa is knowing what to get for someone else, especially when the someone else is someone you don’t know very well.

I find it helpful to not get too specific when trying to get a gift for someone you might not know too well. I also think it’s a good idea to stick with holiday related items too. To help you pick out a not-so-lame gift for that special assigned someone, I’ve compiled a list for you. I hope it helps.

  • Gift card

You can get a gift card to pretty much anywhere nowadays. Most people would love a gift card from a local coffee shop, their favorite department store or from one of Missoula’s best restaurants.

  • Holiday spirit

The cold winters in Montana make drinking hot beverages a necessity. What goes better with hot beverages than a bottle of Irish cream, Kahlua or rum?

  • Baked goodies

I know that there are tons of Christmas cookies and fudge floating around during the holidays, but that is part of what makes them so great. Just about everyone gives up on their diets and lets themselves enjoy the deliciousness the holidays have to offer. Help them satisfy their sweet tooth.

  • Mug or cup

I know it sounds cliché, but if you work in an office like I do, then you’re constantly drinking all day long. Whether it’s coffee in the morning, soda with lunch, or water in the afternoon, I drink nonstop all day long. This gift will help reduce waste from disposable cups and, it will also keep you from accidentally drinking out of someone else’s cup (which I have done a time or two).

  • Meat

I know this may seem weird, but come on, we live in Montana. Who wouldn’t live a nice big juicy elk roast or a pack of antelope steaks for Christmas? If you’re not into game, you could always be more traditional and give a ham, turkey, jerky or smoked meat.
